Cat saves family from carbon monoxide poisoning at home in Michigan

In late August, a family in Farmington Hills, Michigan, had a problem with the power in their home and installed a portable generator in their garage. However, as the environment did not have adequate ventilation for the device, which is powered by carbon monoxide, the gas began to leak and spread throughout the house, without the family noticing.

Luckily, the family's pet kitten, Thor, just four months old, noticed something was wrong and started screaming. His owner, Heidi, took him outside to get some fresh air and noticed that the fresh air seemed to do the cat good. She then opened a window and returned to bed, but ended up losing consciousness.

Half an hour later, Thor started screaming again, which woke up Heidi and her two children, Paige and Quinn. Next thing she knew, she was on the floor with her family trying to revive her, while her husband Ron had passed out outside the house.

The children called 911 and were taken to a hospital, where they were treated for severe carbon monoxide poisoning. City authorities praised Thor for having acted in time to save the lives of the entire family and warned everyone to be careful and install gas detectors to identify possible leaks.

Heidi is very grateful for her pet cat and is moved to say that Thor saved the whole family's lives: "Just the thought that I wouldn't be here to see my kids, that's really scary," she said. “If it weren't for Thor, we wouldn't be here. He saved our lives.”
